How mach

In Japanese, ”how mach” basically uses ”幾ら いくら ikura”.  Let’s actually look at the example sentences.

At the store

 i ku ra

How much?

B

いくらですか。

 i ku ra desuka

How much?

これは いくらですか。

 korewa  i kura desuka

How much is this?

D

このオレンジは いくらですか。

konoorenji   wa    ikura desuka

How much is this orange?

hyaku en desu

It’s 100 yen.

funabindato ikura ni nari masuka

How much did you pay?

1,200円です。(1,200円でした。)

sennihyaku en desu (sennihyaku en desita)

It’s 1200 yen.(It was1200 yen.)

Since question B is the past tense, the past tense (it was 1200 yen) is grammatically correct,     but the present tense is a more natural answer in everyday conversation.
